Signs tell you where a planet is along the Sun's path. Houses tell you where it sits in relation to the horizon of your birthplace, at the moment you were born. The horizon turns a full circle about once a day, which is why your birth time matters so much for houses.

Select a house to read its traditional themes. The same information appears in the table below.

## How the circle is divided

The first house begins at the Ascendant, the point of the sky rising in the east as you were born. The other eleven begin at points set by a house system. Different systems divide the sky a little differently, so a planet can fall in a different house from one system to another.

Your chart always names the house system it uses, and you can compare it with others.

## How traditions read the houses

Modern Western astrology reads each house as an area of life: the first as how you meet the world, the fourth as home and roots, the seventh as close partnership, the tenth as vocation and public life. A planet in a house brings its own themes into that area.

Which of the twelve areas has had most of your attention this year, and which has had least? Is that balance one you chose?

## Not sure of your birth time?

That's common, and it's fine. Your chart shows the houses your time can support and highlights any that could change within your time range, so you always know how much to lean on them.

Add your birth time, even a rough one, and see which houses it reveals.
